Hemorrhoid itching is an irritating condition. Why does itching persists when you are suffering from this condition, and how do you put an end to it. Lets us consider some ways.

When the mucus membrane which is like the lining to the anal canal is irritated, it results in increased mucus secretion. Later the mucus travels down through the anal sphincter moistening the anus and skin. When the mucus dries, the skin itches. This is an important factor in internal hemorrhoid itching.

When excessive pressure is put on the inflamed internal hemorrhoid, more and more blood flows to it, it results in the hemorrhoid(s) getting larger. When internal hemorrhoids swell, itching follows with a burning sensation.

As far as external hemorrhoid itching is concerned, the irritation followed by itching happens around the anal region. External hemorrhoids are likely to get infected if the affected area is not properly taken care. Stool remnants and cleaning soaps may irritate hemorrhoids leading to more of that itchy feeling.

Treatment

  • Repeated Sitz baths can relieve Hemorrhoid itching. Sitz baths are prepared with warm plain water. The affected area is soaked for about 15 minutes, two to five times per day, which will clean the stool remnants, giving relief from itching. This sitz bath can be performed in a basin or bathtub.
  • If you eat right foods, hemorrhoid itching can be prevented. Devise an anti-itch diet, with a lower acid ph balance in your bowel movements. This anti-itch diet should encourage you to keep away from caffeinated beverages, soda along with alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine. Instead, consider fruit juices that provide vitamin C, and you can include fruits and herbs which can de-constipate your system. Also drinking lots of water is beneficial.
  • There are anti-itch gels, creams and liniments, containing 1% hydrocortisone which can cure itching. Study the labels and instructions on the package, before using these creams.
  • Homeopathy has come out with number of treatments for hemorrhoid itching, which can both cure and prevent this itchy condition and give you relief. For hemorrhoid itching, Nux Vomica is commonly used for itching and chronic constipation. Similarly, Paeonia Officinalis or peony is used to provide relief from anal itching, after a bowel movement. Itchy hemorrhoids can also be treated with Pulsatilla and sulphur. There are many options to ease the pain and itch and all should be investigated before choosing the right one for you.

Hemorrhoid itching is also indicative of the presence of hemorrhoids which needs to be treated immediately before the condition worsens. The above curative medications can offer you relief from your discomfiture. To get rid of the itch, opt for anti-itching diet, use sitz bath, or use gels and creams. It is necessary to change your lifestyle and eating habits to prevent hemorrhoids from occurring.
